Fear Mongering….

I was watching the daily show with John Stewart just now and had to stop to share a quick epiphonie with you.

As most know,  Johns way of approaching the news is from a comedians perspective from most Americans perspective, but still remaining informative. I use to watch his show back in my high school econ class so I am familiar with his style of sarcasm and silliness when he shows clips of the news and cuts away to make a comment.

He was talking about the swine flu vaccination and how the news was covering this supposed “cure”. John brought light on to the fear that the news was putting into the people.

“Should we get it?”" Is it safe?” “Is there enough?” “Can we trust the govt?”"Would you give it to your children?”… These where the questions that the news programs where putting in our head. Johns take on it was, how fear mongering can the news be. “Has anyone developed a vacciean that incoulates against scarying?” He goes on to talk about Dr. Gleneton Beck, MD’s statment of “How much do you trust your govt.” by saying,  not every thing has to be a conspericy; that the big bad govt. is out to inject us with some untested, potentially dangerous thing. He says ” Im sure the Vaccination isn’t perfact, science isnt perfect, but does everything have to be so spooky?”

I agree with him 100% because it is a fact that not only has the govt keeped us in fear before but the news is our main sorce to bring the fear to our living rooms every morning.

Fear is the main force that drives us to make certin choices.  After this news program brought all these doubts to the people many of them refused to get it. After September 11, we lived in fear of another attack, so we encouraged the invasion of the middle east.  the fear mongers made us war mongers

Much of what we do is out of fear. We fear death, we fear tarorist attacts, we fear  germs, we fear an eternity in a firey pit of hell…So we go to church. We pray and ask for forgivness from our sins. Could it be a possability that if somthing tramatic or life threatening happened like illness or a situation of emediate danger could bring us to pray and ask God to save us? Then when we come out victorious that we come out more spiritual, more Religous. Is it so hard to believe that fear is what drove us to this?

It says in the bible to fear God.  I’m curious to hear others take on this, but I cant help but connect that with the fear we live in every day. To do as God says so you can go to heaven. Why do we live in fear? Why can’t we just, as the beatles said “Let it be.”
